Tarot Readings - the Logistics

Tarot readings are meant to help reflect back to you what your life looks like now and in the future and offer advice.

There are 78 cards in a traditional Tarot deck (see previous posts for more on which deck I use). The deck is divided into 22 Major Arcana cards and 4 Suits each containing 14 cards.

Each card is meant to represent a common action or feeling that occurs to most of us as we navigate life. A general reflection of the human condition.

The major arcana represents the path to enlightenment, or hero’s quest. Major arcana cards represent life’s turning points or larger events, while the suits reflect the ups and downs of every day life.

During a reading, cards are laid out in positions which represent an area of your life. For example, past, present and future.

When you add the meaning of the card + the position it is in the layout you can find understanding, advice and answers.

Knowing the meanings of each card + understanding the way cards interact with the layout is how Tarot “works”. Which is why anyone can technically read Tarot.

Just like any skill however, practice and study is what sets the stage for a meaningful Tarot reading. Tarot readers each have their own gifts and abilities. We become experts at understanding the meaning of each card and how they interact with one another. Many of us are also mediums, or sensitives which can enhance the depth of readings.
